At what point.

For most of us when we say our body, we mean our head.

Its begun raining here in Mumbai, thank god, and one gets to see the lived proof of the above statement.

A few days ago, on a walk, it started to rain heavily, I went and stood under a bus stop shelter. A man stood some distance away with an open umbrella, that barely stayed in one place, under the influence of the heavy winds. The man struggled to keep it upright.

The rains were hitting him from all directions and he was.. well drenched.

And yet he continued to stand there.

As we exchanged glance, and the forced need to say something.

“It’s rainfly heavily, no” – he said.

Yes of course., I smile at the obvious

It was now my turn, ‘why don’t you get under the shelter if the bus stop?’ I invited, noticing his drenched form – also obvious

And then, he said…

No no, he smiled, I am not getting wet, I have the umbrella.

Which by the way was covering his head. And so he did not feel “he” was wet – never mind this entire body was dripping.

No, if his head got wet.. then he would feel it.

Or else, its ok. Just my legs, my back.. my arm are wet.- Not me.

At what point do we realize we are wet ?

This question also applicable at the state of our climatic conditions

At what point do we say, we are drenched, inundated?

Are we just. saving our heads then?
