Déjà vu…we know the feeling.. something new feels familiar.
And there is..Jamais vu…when the familiar feels foreign
Say a word you have known all your life…Again..and again and again
Suddenly ..something starts to disintegrate.. slowly ..
The meaning…and with it all the various threads of stories attached to it
Starts to disappears….
Like a rewind film undoing the line drawn..
The Word that once arrived effortlessly in your mind..
Now sits before you… like an object you have never seen…
Strange..foreign.. perhaps like the time when you first heard it..
You know it..somewhere deep in your mind,.
But for a few suspended seconds.. you cannot reach the knowing.
It tastes different in you mouth..
And strangely…there is relief in that.
A tiny break from this constant search for meaning.
From interpretations.
From the endless work of turning everything …
we encounter and experience to fit into tiny box ..called my understanding…
As if.
And that is the unsettling beauty ..teh suspended moment..
Of Jamais vu.
A moment that feel like you have just arrived for the first time..
I wonder …how much of what we call “seeing” ..is mostly just remembering.
A face becomes a name, A place becomes a memory.
We rarely see things as they are.
We encounter everything through what we already know…and label
Yet somehow we don’t…really know it.
And perhaps there is something deep hidden in that moment.
Because we rarely experience the world before… the mind names it.
Maybe that is..the hidden cost of familiarity:
The more certain we become that we know something,
the less we actually …really look at it.
Until, for one strange moment…memory pauses.
The familiar becomes foreign.
And what you have known for years stands before you
Without a name….
Untehered..free..Both You and it.
Perhaps presence is not about paying more attention.
Perhaps it is about carrying less of the past into what we see.
To stand before something familiar
And allow it, somehow – to be new again.
